Looking at Mr Donkey today it is hard to believe the condition he was in when we first met him. At first, we’d  drive past and notice he would hug the wall trying to keep out of the sun. but when we took a closer look we saw a small dirty plot that was full of rubbish and broken glass. We also saw how skinny and frail he was, and realized he was not being fed and had no access to water. It took many weeks working with the local authorities and community to encourage the 'owner' to give him up. But we did it! It then took many months to get him back to health, and many more months to get him comfortable with people as he wasn't a very happy donkey at first. In the process of rehabilitating him we got to know a lot about animal welfare in spain. and while it is one of the most advanced countries in terms of laws of protection there still remain so many farmyard and working animals that are not well cared for. Often the neglect is not because people are cruel, but becuase there is a need for education.  This is why we are commited to giving safe haven to neglected and homeless animals and becoming part of the local community so that we can support and educate in order to improve the lives of many more farmyard and working animals.

Why Education Matters:

  • Donkeys and working animals often suffer neglect due to lack of knowledge about proper care, leading to malnutrition, untreated injuries, and premature deaths.

  • Hunting dogs, like galgos, face harsh living conditions, abandonment, or cruel deaths at the end of each hunting season, with up to 80,000 discarded annually.

  • Feral cats struggle to survive, with up to 90% of kittens in colonies dying within their first six months.

  • Many cases of animal suffering stem from outdated traditions that persist due to a lack of awareness and support for better alternatives.

Through education and outreach, we aim to foster compassion and empower communities to provide better lives for the animals they depend on.
